This interactive exhibition of the Hungarian Natural History Museum presents the mysterious world of insects.

We are ready to believe that the most successful organisms on Earth are mammals, including us, humans. However, we live in the age of insects. There are about 1 million described insect species accounting for more than half of all the animal species. In fact, we do not know the majority of the extant insect species yet.

 

Insects can be found everywhere on the planet except for the deep sea. In certain places their abundance exceeds that of all other animal species. Although they have existed for a very long time on Earth, they are capable of constant renewal due to their unique morphology and physiology. Without insects the majority of organisms, including humans, would not exist today.
