Freshwater Worlds – Learning Session and Workshop

Recommended age groups: primary school / middle school students (grades 1-4 / 5-8)

Duration: 60 minutes

Recommended number of people: 15 (larger classes are accepted by dividing them into smaller groups)

Price: 2,200 HUF / person, which includes the exhibition entrance fee.

Do giant fish live in the Danube? What is a sturgeon and where does caviar come from? What do catfish use their barbels for? What is the difference between a water lily and a fairy lily? Are cowbanes only dangerous to cows? Students can get to see what a pike's bite is like and what the catfish's rake-like teeth are for. They can learn about the spoonbill, the bittern and find out where the cormorant's name comes from, why the beaver's incisors are red and why it is good for fire-bellied toads to have a spotted belly. Students can get their hands on fish, reptile and bird specimens and learn about their body structure. They may get to know the types and characteristics of domestic wetlands, as well as they can learn why Hungary used to be called the "Wild Water Country" by so many European travellers in the past.

We hope that by the end of the session, students will have a deep understanding of why it is crucial to protect and preserve wetlands and freshwater environments.
